So far, with the first three issues, we have had over 10,000 downloads, however, Issue Four has been the most difficult to produce as the interest & support from BUAFL has been very disappointing.

We’ve also seen a massive drop in support from photographers, this might be because less people cover the winter season, after all, who wants to hang around in the freezing cold, wet & dark for 2 1/2 hours shooting American football?

When I started the mag I thought we might be able to do an issue a month. I’m finding the work involved in actually getting everything together means that we’ll probably be aiming for an issue every two months.

We’re still on the look out for people to join the team, hopefully there may be one or two new additions by the time Issue 5 comes out, but if you want to give it a try, let us know. Please make sure any emails include the words ‘American’, ‘Football’ or ‘IAF’ are included in the title so that my aggressive spam software doesn’t delete it accidentally.

As always, we welcome any comments, thoughts or suggestions on the magazine either via our Forums or Contact Page on the website.

After what seems like an age since Issue Two, we are pleased to announce the publication of Issue Three.

This issue has been a long time coming – two months in preparation. Unfortunately, things conspired against me getting it out on time, not least of which was a death in the family & summer holidays.

Having accepted that it would be delayed somewhat I decided to delay it even further so that we could cover the BAFA Community League post-season & finals. To that end, we have a fully packed issue which features over 50 pages of match reports & photos, including the finals.

Great photography is key to I.A.F. & this issue is packed full of photos from some of the top photographers in the UK game.

With the ending of the BAFA CL summer season we now look forward to the 2010/2010 British Universities American Football league season. This is the biggest season for the uni teams with the addition of several new teams about to play their first season & a new setup with their league structure.

With any luck we’ll get just as much support from the university teams as we have from the BAFA teams, or even more. So if you’re involved in BUAFL in any way, make sure you send in your match reports, team news & ideas for content.

And it’s only two-and-a-bit weeks later than I hoped.

Unfortunately life kind of got in the way of preparations for Issue two. Being a struggling semi-professional photographer means taking paid work which takes priority over my magazine ‘hobby’. So whilst I could have been preparing articles, photos & magazine layouts, I was actually processing wedding photos & doing pre-wedding shoots etc.

Anyway, issue two is now out.

We feature 3 articles on Youth Football, with items on the Lancashire American Football Academy and the Farnham Knights Youth & London Blitz Youth Teams.

Dan Aitch shares his brilliant football photography in an article about his recent travels to Europe with the London Blitz, his photos also crop up on a few other pages.

Neil Biggs, who spends his days photographing the London Cobras, spotlights in our ‘Photographers in Focus’. And we have an item of Defence Coaching and a new section called ‘Ask the Ref’ where BAFRA’s Steve Tonkinson explains a rule in terms that even I can understand – if you have any questions for our resident expert official, le us know via our facebook Page or in our Forum.

I hope you enjoy Issue Two, please let us have your feedback in our Forum. I’m off for a well-earned weekend of two days of 8-10 hour photography which, this week, doesn’t feature American Football.

Currently, we’re looking for anyone who has had to make a claim under the sport’s insurance scheme for an informative article on player insurance & how it works.

We also want to hear from a defence coach to assist with an item on ‘Defence for Beginners’, and we need more submissions of photographs of players who are ‘Airborne’.

The success of the first issue, which was only 4 days ago, is still sinking in. I’m receiving emails offering praise, thanks & offers to either join the team or provide info/articles/match reports. In fact I received our first match report since launch today – thanks to the Shropshire Revolution!

It’s important to get acceptance from the structural organisations in the UK game, & we appear to be doing that. BAFCA (coaches’ association) have advised they would be happy to assist with interviews/information & BAFRA (referees) appear to be pleased with the first issue’s referee article, so we’re hoping to feature further articles with a refereeing slant.

We are now on Twitter – check out http://twitter.com/InsideAmFootbal – yes, I know ‘football’ has two l’s but we fell foul of Twitter’s 15-letter naming convention.

Our Facebook group now has 870 members, but our Forum is a little quiet. Please come over & chat to us via the forum, it makes us feel all warm & wanted!
